about us

Hi!

We are Kat and Joe, (@katandjoe_) a couple that is passionate about making life as memorable as possible. With an interest in photography and video making, we create content to inspire, showcase and educate.

what we do

Our content is created through capturing moments – not for the purposes of creating.

Through capturing these moments, we hope to inspire others, showcase our subject, and educate viewers to provide them with information they need to build their own trip.

Yes we are new to the game, but we are seasoned go-getters and adventure buddies! We have always had an eye for detail and sought adventure, but it’s only recently that we caught these moments on camera and decided to share them. However, most importantly, we believe that we are relatable.

Under normal circumstances, we are just like most couples in their mid-20s. We work a 9-5 to fund our travels and our holidays are restricted by our annual leave entitlements. This shows that living a life full of travel and adventure is still possible without leaving the security of our jobs. At this stage of our lives, we prioritise these experiences because that is the life we want to live!

We are proud to have created a life like this for ourselves. It still feels normal, but it’s full of new experiences and ‘pinch me’ moments. We believe that is our point of difference.

our story

We met each other in our home country of New Zealand. Growing up in separate islands, Kat spent the majority of her childhood and later years in Christchurch, with Joe growing up in a small rural town called Waiuku, located by the west coast, south of Auckland.

We both attended and graduated from university in our respective cities and at some point of our lives, sought more opportunity than what our home town/city could offer. Climbing the corporate ladder, Kat moved to Auckland after landing herself a job. She packed her car with all her belongings, drove up north and with a job starting in a few days, she had nowhere to live. Prepared to couch surf, Kat quickly found a room in a flat of strangers which happened to share some mutual friends with Joe and his flat.

Joe had been living in Auckland for 6 years now and was working towards another professional qualification in line with his work. Being suckers for the grind, it was a long time until we crossed paths. We had actually been over to each other’s flats a number of times, but each time the other one of us wouldn’t be there. It wasn’t until later that year, following another COVID lockdown, that we got to know each other and hang out.

It didn’t take long for sparks to fly and after only a few months of being together, we moved into a beautiful home of our own right by the beach. Life was good, comfortable and safe, but we knew it could get better!

Like a lot of people, we spent our early 20’s studying, working and prioritising our careers, but what we really wanted in life was to travel, to see the world, to make memories and to have a life where we could look back on with no regrets. Our careers were going in the right direction and to make this overseas dream possible, it was important for us to continue building our professional credibility as we would need our jobs to support and fund our travels.

Moving to London was the first step to give us the life we wanted, where we can now live our dreams and make that “one day” a reality time and time again.
